Where to find me

Marigold also known as(Tagetes) are native to the Americas, originating in subtropical regions stretching from the southwestern United States through Mexico and down to South America. (marigolds) were cultivated by the Aztecs in Mexico and Central America for centuries before being "discovered" by Europeans and taken to Spain in the early 16th century (1500s) following the Spanish conquest. They rapidly spread to Europe, Africa, and India by the late 16th and early 17th centuries.Marigolds are identifiable by their vibrant yellow, orange, or red-maroon, daisy-like flower heads and deeply divided, fern-like foliage. They are typically found in sunny, well-drained gardens, borders, and containers, thriving as annuals in warm, hot climates.

My meaning!

Their vibrant colour is seen as a symbol of positivity, protection, and divine grace. Many people believe that placing marigolds around idols or altars invites the presence of the divine into their lives. Marigolds symbolize joy, passion, resilience, and the connection between life and death. Deeply rooted in cultural traditions, they are famously known as cempasĂșchil for DĂa de los Muertos, serving as vibrant beacons for spirits, and as "Mary's Gold" in Christian tradition, representing purity and the sun's energy. When the Victorians developed their language of flowers, the marigold was said to be a symbol for grief, despair and mourning.

Pest and Insect Repellent

Due to their strong, pungent aroma, marigolds are often used in companion planting to repel common pests like nematodes in the soil, as well as deer and rabbits.Marigolds often smell "bad" (a pungent, sharp, or musky scent) to humans because of natural oils, primarily containing terpenes, that serve as a natural defense mechanism to repel insects, deer, and rabbits from the garden. This odor acts as a powerful deterrent against pests, making them a popular companion plant to protect vegetables.
